Jordan's technique as an artist is closely related to his philosophy as a teacher.  His collaborative art-making approach is premised on an uncanny ability to cultivate and influence the creative energy of others.  He has over 3 years of experience as a practitioner and teacher of butoh dance - having studied with such esteemed teachers as Katsura Kan, Ko Murobushi, Vangeline, & Joan Laage.  In addition, his study of gymnastics and other theatrical movement techniques have prepared him well to lead workshops or conduct consultation on a variety of topics.

Jordan is also prepared to lead one-time workshops for a wide variety of audiences and age groups.  Topics include:

LECOQ & BUTOH: THE PROCESS OF EMBODIMENT

In this workshop, participants are led through a series of exercises drawn from the work of Jacques Lecoq, the famous French acting instructor, and from butoh, a modern dance style originating from Japan.  These exercises are designed to introduce participants to the concepts of neutrality and embodiment, which are tools that can be applied to a variety of performance disciplines. This work may be useful to actors, dancers, musicians, public speakers, politicians, clergy, or artists from any other discipline.

Duration: 90 minutes +
Maximum number of participants: 20
Appropriate for adults beginners.

CREATING PHYSICAL THEATRE

What is physical theatre? How can martial arts, modern dance, and gymnastics be used to tell a story? In this workshop, students will begin to answer those questions by learning the physical disciplines which were used to create the play, Butoh Electra.  Students will be introduced to the basic vocabulary of judo, butoh, and gymnastics.

Then they will be guided through the process of using those disciplines to create a short, entirely original, dramatic adaptation of a classical myth, fairy tale, or other literary work.

This workshop is designed to easily complement your classroom's reading curriculum and gives students the opportunity to demonstrate both critical thinking and reading comprehension.

Duration: 2-1/2 hours +
Maximum number of participants: 26
Appropriate for adults and children in grades 6 - 12.
